Year 11 Retro Poster Designs
My Year 11’s were tasked with the creative challenge of making a retro poster for a famous band who would be touring our local area soon.
The idea was that the students had to use, modify and adapt the skills that we had so far learnt in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create their designs. I also asked that they refrain from following a step by step tutorial on poster design, although, they could use parts of existing tutorials if they wished.
A few of the tools and techniques that we learnt about in both programs were how to do a trace drawing using the curvature tool and also how to do one with a graphics tablet. We learnt how to add textures to images, bend and manipulate text, build shapes, create retro dots, make a two- tone image and use smart filters.
As well as learning these practical skills we learnt about some common graphic design principles as they relate to poster design and how to use typography effectively.
I think the students really enjoyed this task and the results were quite amazing as you can see in the examples. I was particularly impressed with our new Multimedia students who were learning the software programs for the first time. What was also impressive was the amount of help that the existing Multimedia students were able and willing to give our newer students to help get them up to speed. Well done everybody!
